a sweet surprise

Instead of running up to Town and Country to make copies or grabbing a back issue from the floor below, today my fellow intern Kylie and I got to run a more exciting errand ...

We went to Magnolia Bakery to buy cupcakes!

There are three Magnolias in New York, and we dropped by one on the upper West side. The distressed checkerboard floor, bead board ceiling and cheery yellow walls were adorable. Armed with GH money, we bought one of almost every cupcake (and since we're going to the meeting later we each get one too!).

We also stopped by Whole Foods to pick up some pink lemonade. The whole day wasn't fun and games (we spent a portion of it cleaning out files into a dumpster), but walking to Magnolia's was a welcomed break from sitting inside on a sunny day. It's dangerously close to my normal route home, so I'm sure I'll be back soon.

drivin' to d.c.

Yesterday at 12:30 am, my little brother Matt and I got home from D.C. Jonathan and I left early Thursday morning to pick him up from Georgetown, and even though we drove almost as long as we were there, we loved every minute of our trip.

On Thursday we ate fresh fish at Teaism in Dupont Circle, and on Friday we woke up early to explore.
We made it to the Museum of Natural History...

the monuments

... and the National Gallery

That night we ate a delicious platter of middle eastern appetizers at Neyla in Georgetown, and finished it off with VERY strong Arabian coffee. Then we wandered around campus and through quiet streets lined with row houses.

The next morning we were up bright and early again to move Matt out (imagine an obstacle course where people put barriers in your way as you move TV's and piles of dirty clothes down multiple flights of stairs and you'll feel like you were there). So when we finished that around lunch time, we stopped by Baked and Wired for some hard earned cupcakes and headed back down South.

I hope your weekend was full of little adventures and delicious food too!

third week's a charm

After a week of snowdays and a missed Monday for MLK, my roommate Brit and I decided to delay our first full week of school a little longer. We flew up to D.C. for the weekend to visit some friends who graduated last year.
On Friday I had dinner with my little brother who goes to Georgetown at Neyla , a delicious mediterranean restaurant with the fluffiest pita bread I've ever had. The rest of the weekend included more delicious meals, shopping at a two story Anthropologie, freshly baked cupcakes from baked and wired
and the icing on the cake... a blanket of snow covering the whole city.
