iron and wine

Yesterday Tatum surprised me...

with the tickets to the sold out Iron and Wine show at the 40 Watt!

Iron and Wine was great, and the best part of the show was their a capella version of "Flightless Bird" during the encore. But I loved Low Anthem, their opening band, even more. They all constantly changed instruments throughout the set, and their voices were beautiful.

I have a big final project due on Thursday, but I don't even mind, because that was such a good start to my week and my weekend was wonderful too. It was full of my favorite things - a family walk around Piedmont Park, sushi at Prime, a DELICIOUS home-cooked Easter lunch (that I'm still full from) and a little date to see Water for Elephants on Sunday night!

Also, I'm reading "To the Lighthouse" by Virginia Woolf for a class right now, and I can't put it down. I highly recommend it.

sunshine through the clouds

It's rainy.
It's gloomy.
I woke up early,
but

this picture makes me happy!

I hope your morning is as happy as Jonathan and I look in the picture. I just finished a 10 page paper, so my day's already looking up.
Tonight I'm going to one of my best friend's jewelry exit shows, and I can't wait. She's told me about her pieces during our early morning breakfasts for the past few months, and now I finally get to see them. Also, I get to see my poplar house friends from D. C. They're coming in town for the show and to move Whitney back to Athens!

If those things aren't enough, my little brother came down from D.C. too, so I get to be with my WHOLE family on Easter.

Happy weekend!

peanut butter and pomegranate

This Friday was the biannual, much anticipated Oak Party at a house where 10 of my friends live. It involves graffitied living room walls, a band led by Britt's boyfriend Gresham and at least 400 of your closest friends floating in and out of the house. Instead of dressing cute like we felt compelled to do in younger college years, my roommates and I wore cut-offs, tank tops, glowsticks and tons of glitter - it made the sweaty-mosh-pit-of-a-party so much more fun, and we didn't even care that we got drenched in champagne.

After a night that lasted til 4 and ended with breakfast at Waffle House, we were exhausted. So on Saturday SB, Britt and I slept til 2 and relaxed all day long. After dinner we went to Yoforia , where we tried a new combination - pomegranate and peanut butter. I know it sounds so weird, but it tastes exactly like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and graham cracker crumbs and m&m toppings make it even better.

I love SB and Britt so much, and even in our tired state we had the best conversations all day long.

*Oak pictures to follow... get excited.

pain and wonder

That's the title of a paper I turned in yesterday morning, but it's also a fitting summary of my week. The past five days have been filled with intense stress and wonderful surprises. Yesterday I had to turn in a paper I started on Tuesday and give an hour long group presentation that counts for half my grade - thus the pain. The work load was daunting, so I did time in my favorite coffee shops, most notably Ike and Jane where I had a thin mint doughnut and chai latte.

I got home late Wednesday night anxious about the morning ahead and expecting to fall asleep in my disaster of a room. Literally - it was the messiest a room has ever been. But while I was studying, my roommate Brittany had cleaned up everything! She even swept and dusted.
The next morning, I furiously put the final touches on my paper and practiced my presentation, but when I got to class there was a note saying my teacher couldn't make it and the presentation would have to wait til Tuesday.
I walked out of Park Hall elated. My room was clean, my work was finished, the sun was shining and all I had to do was go home and celebrate Emily's 21st birthday!

Also, the most wonderful surprise of all was that Good Housekeeping offered me an internship in NYC this summer!
